Gate of Hades - Reflection on the Inevitable

The work introduces us to the threshold of Hades, where two figures solemnly carry an urn. The scene is both one of the representations most closely connected to Greek mythology, beloved and studied by Salvi, and one of the artist’s frequent memento mori: there is no escape from the Gates of Hades, and the composition celebrates the dignity of acceptance. The large vase carried by the two young women features the faces of human figures of apparently different ages, representing the inevitability of a fate that can confront us at any moment. The work seems to seek beyond the perceptible and exorcise the encounter with the inevitable through the wonder of mystery and the incomprehensible.
