CATALOGUE NOTE

"Are we withnessing

a Prophecy or a Curse?"

In the evocative work "Shaman with Candle," we are invited into a liminal space where the mystical and the mundane intertwine. The shaman, a conduit to the arcane, is captured in a moment of transcendental communion, her expression one of intense concentration or otherworldly revelation.

The stark contrast between the soft glow of the candle and the encroaching shadows accentuates the dichotomy of knowledge and the unknown.

The crown of thorns adorning her head, reminiscent of withered flora, signals a departure from the vitality of blooming flowers, suggesting a deep affinity with the cyclical decay and rebirth inherent in natural magic. It evokes the shaman's mastery over the elements and the cycle of life, symbolizing a connection to the earth that is both nurturing and formidable.

The flame, animated by a spectral breeze, appears as a singular entity, perhaps indicative of the shaman's inner fire or the manifestation of an ethereal presence. The air around her seems charged with a primordial energy, hinting at the threshold of worlds unseen.

This piece defies the boundaries of time and place, positioning the viewer within the ritual itself.

It raises questions: Is the flame a harbinger of enlightenment or an omen of darker tidings? Are we, the onlookers, passive witnesses or active participants in this rite?

"Shaman with Candle" is not merely a portrait; it is a narrative captured in medias res, a frozen dialogue between the shaman and the elemental forces at her command. The viewer is left to ponder the nature of the ritual and the power wielded by the figure who, with a gaze that pierces through the veil of reality, invites us to look beyond.
