The Spirit of the Amphora

A young sorceress, bent over a pedestal, is caught by the fumes emanating from an ancient amphora and is brought into a mystical trance.

For the ancient Greeks, the night and smoke are two indispensable elements for the occurrence of magical and unexplainable situations. The reference to the “demon of the amphora” or “spirit of the jar,” hiding at the bottom of ancient containers and released upon their opening, becomes even more evident.

The rite becomes a symbol of individual access to the world of one’s unconscious, through the overcoming of self-imposed limits. To be blinded by one’s own impulses and to lose oneself, in order to find oneself.
