The Bath of the Nymphs

Hidden from the sun’s rays, a group of nymphs gathers for a bath in a pond. But their peace is interrupted by the steps of an intruder. One of the girls notices him and stares at him with modesty, suspicion, and wonder: that intruder is us.

As in every other mythological work, the visual theme is used by Daniel Salvi to speak of universal and emotional themes: in this case, the concept of vulnerability and openness to others.

It is as if we all have within us an ongoing bath of the nymphs: these are our thoughts, our dreams, our uncertainties that we keep hidden from the surface, naked because they are without filters. But when we allow a new person to approach our deepest essence, then we reveal ourselves, becoming naked and revealing our suspicious nymphs.

In the souls of these nymphs, there is paradoxically both the desire to be known and the fear of being revealed, in a sense of caution that blocks every action. The other person could either give us joy or betray our trust: we feel without that defense that allowed detachment.
