Ukraine’s Prayer to the Spirit of Revenge

Ukraine—invaded and tormented by Russian enemy troops—resists with dignity and, embodied in a young sunflower girl, raises a prayer to the sky, imploring that the flames of justice consume the invader to ashes and awaiting the arrival of her inevitable revenge. The reality revealed by the curtain in the background, depicting the symbol of the enemy regime in flames, represents both hope for the Ukrainian people and a curse to the invading one; among the clouds of the fire, the face of the destructive spirit takes shape.

Daniel Salvi dedicates to the events of the war in Ukraine his only work that—so far—has ever referred to real and recent facts and events, and expresses all his concordance towards the feelings of the invaded people and deep disdain and hatred for all those who support the ongoing war, concretizing in his image the hope for the regime’s destruction.

In doing so, he creates one of the most iconic prototypes of the visualizations he will later call “Goddesses,” predominantly characterized by realistic features and sinuous and luminous hair.
