Quicksands of the Soul

Alive, but destined for death; safe yet close to her end. The young woman despairs because she is already half-buried in the quicksands of the soul.

Salvi’s metaphor becomes clear with the title: it’s not about real quicksand, but about a slow, inexorable upheaval of the human soul. It’s when feelings take over and immobilize any kind of reaction. Only external help can aid us, because any movement will bring us further down, more suffocated and overwhelmed by the events that we ourselves have caused.
